TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A Toledo doctor is postponing her retirement plans so she can help those in need.
After a more-than-30-year career in Toledo, podiatrist Dr. Edna Jean was ready to retire and move out of the city. She even closed on her house and moved into an apartment.
But when she heard two Haitian families she sponsored got approved to immigrate to the United States, she decided to pay it forward.
“My mom is from Haiti, she’s Haitian, direct descendent, and came over here when she was about 16,” said Jean’s daughter, Ashley Pierre-Louis.
Jean has gone on several medical missions in Haiti, and although she stopped traveling to her home country due to the ongoing political crisis, she has continued to help in other ways.
She sent funds for school fees and uniforms and continued to stay in contact with the families she was helping.
