Ludlow community reflects on historic floods one year later [Video]

The ski town of Ludlow is still contending with the Black River overwhelming much of the lower-lying parts of town in July of 2023. As the year anniversary closes in, many residents are still deciding if they should accept buyouts from FEMA or raise their houses higher off the ground as a mitigation measure.“I’m not going to lie. It’s still a struggle right now, a year out,” Brendan McNamara, the Ludlow municipal manager said. “We still have a long-term recovery. Things that we’re dealing with, really trying to get our community back better if you know, as good as, if not better than it was.”Many businesses are still closed and some soon will be demolished. The Blue Duck Deli, an elevated sandwich and coffee shop, was supposed to open its doors in August last year. Instead, the back of the restaurant was destroyed weeks before it was due to open. …
