LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Louisville Saturday to celebrate their history and heritage.

It was all part of the Fourth Annual MELANnaire Marketplace “Ancestor’s Dream” Juneteeth Celebration on Fourth Street Live.

Juneteenth — June 19 — commemorates when the last enslaved African Americans learned they were free in 1865, when Union soldiers brought the news of freedom to Galveston, Texas. The date symbolizes liberation, resilience, and the ongoing struggle for freedom and equality.

The event started at 3 p.m. and continued until 10 p.m., with several speakers and Black-owned businesses on hand to sell their products.
