Area organization harvesting hope and sowing careers for residents with developmental disabilities | News [Video]

(WESTON, Mo.) A major looming concern for many parents of children with developmental disabilities is for their child’s future and what life will look like for them after graduation.

One area organization is looking to help ease that fear while preparing their kids for successful careers.

Suzanne and Alan Zimmerman met Peaches and David Cunningham many years ago when both of their kids were in preschool together at a school for children with developmental disabilities. But as their kids got older, and the families went their separate ways, they found themselves asking the same question: “What’s next?”

In 2023, the US Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate of people with a disability was about 7.2%. This is compared to the 3.5% unemployment rate for those without a disability.
